Announcing Tibet Lobby Day 2012

On Friday, February 3, 2012, in Recent, US Government, by Leslie Butterfield

For the past three years Tibetan-Americans and Tibet supporters from across the country have joined together in Washington, DC to participate in Tibet Lobby Day. Monday and Tuesday, March 19 and 20, 2012 will mark the fourth annual Tibet Lobby Day.

This collaboration of ICT, US-based Tibet Support Groups and Tibetan Associations has been highly successful because of the commitment and dedication of Tibetan-Americans and Tibet supporters. It is important that your Representatives and Senators hear directly from you, their Tibetan-American and Tibet supporting constituencies.

At this time of crisis inside Tibet, many people have asked us what they can do to help.   Participating in Tibet Lobby Day will send a strong message to Congress that a peaceful resolution to the situation in Tibet is a priority for Americans, and that Congressional action is needed. Furthermore, your participation in Tibet Lobby Day will ensure that Tibet stays on the US legislative agenda for the long-term.

Because ICT’s core advocacy work in the Nation’s Capital is lobbying Congress,   ICT staff will set up meetings for all participants with the offices of their Members of Congress. We will provide lobbying training and tips along with other materials to make your time on Capitol Hill as meaningful as possible. We have also created a webpage for Tibet Lobby Day 2012 where you can learn more about what to expect (we will be regularly adding new items).

The Congressional schedule is intensely busy in March, so it is imperative that we know who will join us to lobby as soon as possible. If you would like to participate, please sign up online today so that we can begin contacting Congressional offices to schedule your meetings. The deadline to sign up is Wednesday, February 8, 2012.

You can make a difference for Tibet. Please join us in meeting with your elected Members of Congress.

If you aren’t able to join us in person, we will be sending out a “Virtual Lobby Day” email in late February/early March that will allow you to join us in sending a message to Congress.
